The Phoenix Consort is pleased to debut a new programme, Renaissance Masters. The concert surrounds Ludovico Agostini, the 16th century Italian composer, alongside his influences and contemporaries from this wonderful period of Renaissance polyphony. With a new edition, reconstructed from the original manuscripts for this performance, we’ll perform Agostini’s “The Tears of the Sinner”, interspersed with pieces by Gesualdo, Monteverdi and his other contemporaries. We’ll also uncover the repertoire written for the ‘Concerto delle donne’, one of the first ensembles of professional female singers of late Renaissance music, founded in Agostini’s home city of Ferrara, Italy.
Join us to rediscover these Renaissance gems, as well as sing some renowned pieces from 15th and 16th century in the beautiful National Centre for Early Music.
